Project Management Tips for Winning Teamwork
Project management, with all its definitions, applications and specializations, all boils down to getting people to meet specific goals and objectives within a given set of constraints, like time and money to name a few. Much easier said than done, isn’t it.
And while the successful project manager needs special skills, knowledge and tools like the ones we recommend, people skills stand at the top of the list. So let’s run through five common sense project management tips for getting people to do what must be done. You probably already know these basics, but we figure professionals will always welcome friendly reminders.
1. Your Leadership. Know the project objectives like the back of your hand. Let the grand vision of its purpose guide you in everything you do. Bring the best brhttp://www.Method123.com?AID=xiJjUains in the organization together. Create a team atmosphere where they all buy into the fact that project management depends on teamwork no differently than the “pulling together” teamwork demanded by team sports. Delegate responsibility to them, coach them, and keep them motivated through thick and thin.
2. Clear and Honest Communication. Know how to spell out exactly what has to be done, no matter how complex, in the simplest possible terms. Create an environment where people feel safe and free to express themselves and their ideas openly. Consult with groups and individuals alike regarding their thoughts, fears, problems, issues and successes.
3. Let Rules be Breakable. Encourage people to think outside the box when problems need to be solved. Inflexible constraints such as time, cost, quality and project scope are one thing. But breaking away from associated constraints can often open the floodgates of creative solutions.
4. Damage Control. Know how to manage conflict and crises, and even head them off at the pass. Be able to anticipate developing trouble before it gets out of control. Listen to your people and be responsive to their needs as though you were a doctor practicing preventive medicine.
5. Your Quality of Character. Build trust in yourself by being consistent, reliable, and never failing to do whatever you’ve promised to do. Maintain self-control even in the most stressful circumstances, and mirror the organization’s principles, culture and mission in everything you do. Be an example for others to follow.
It’s all about successful project management and the strongest shoulders you can bring to bear.
